Dalum converts to biofuel January 2007

Reduction of “CO2 footprint” by up to 90%

Dalum Papir has installed a 45 MW biofuel boiler at the company’s power plant. This means that we now have the world’s lowest CO2 emissions and energy consumption for the production of fine paper. By using Cyclus 100% recycled paper, end users can reduce their paper consumption’s environmental impact in relation to standard fine paper as follows (1):

CO2 emissions reduced by 90%
Energy consumption reduced by 60%
Discharge into water sources by 100%

An ever growing number of companies take an interest in how their activities impact on the environment. In recent times, there has been a great deal of focus on “global warming” and hereby, companies’ “CO2 footprint”.

Dalum Papir has always been a leader in environmentally friendly paper production and therefore our products are sought out by companies that value sustainable usage of resources. The list of companies includes Toyota, Deutsche Post and WWF. For many years, our 100% production concept has given Dalum Papir a leading environmental profile in the paper industry. This concept involves all raw materials being used or recycled 100% and the complete elimination of many emissions.

The environment is also good business

100% recycling of raw materials, combined with reduction of energy consumption and CO2 emissions is not only positive for
the environment. It is also good business. As energy prices have risen, the ongoing reduction of energy consumption has meant that Dalum Papir has thrived in the highly competitive fine paper market.

The new biofuel boiler will further contribute to Dalum Papir’s competitiveness for the following reasons:

1. Wood chips, which are used as fuel, are currently cheaper than natural gas, which was previously used.
2. By using CO2 neutral fuel, Dalum Papir’s CO2 EU quota will be set free and can be sold on the market.
3. Dalum sells the surplus heat collected from condensation of exhaust gases for district heating.
